Cheap Vinyl Replacement Windows... yes, one of the things I dislike!

Did I see correctly that the school board wants to replace the windows at R.J. Reynolds High School with cheap vinyl replacements? The windows are a part of architect Charles Barton Keen's design. Replacing them with cheap vinyl is like removing the brick facade and replacing it with HardiPlank or vinyl siding. Can anything be done to stop them from doing this? It's outside the West End protections, since it's in the West Highlands Neighborhood. This structure is one of Keen's top three structures in the city. These buildings are an advantage Winston-Salem has over other cities in the state in attracting and retaining young people and employers. In a city where everything Reynolds is elevated to a higher level, I'm surprised this is allowed at the memorial from his wife. If someone tried to demolish one of the smokestacks downtown, there would be a big uprising to save a piece of Reynolds' history. Why aren't we seeing the same here?
