Now that Wegman's is entering North Carolina, developers need to be aggressive about luring the legendary grocer to Winston-Salem.

Cary approves $87.5M ‘major’ mixed-use development, contributes $2.1M in town funds

Quote:
The Meridian development project will bring 220 apartments, approximately 8,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and a 348-space parking structure deck to downtown between East Chatham Street and East Cedar Street and directly across from Hunter Street.

Construction could begin as early as this summer, Cary’s economic development director Ted Boyd said.

“The Meridian development project reflects an $87.5 million private investment in the core of our downtown, bringing 300-plus new downtown residents and over 60 jobs which will continue to fuel our downtown revitalization,” Boyd said.

Well, maybe there’s a remote chance for a Wegmans in downtown W-S. I seem to recall before Trader Joe’s came to W-S there was a public campaign of letter-writing.
No kidding. I posted this on February 18 in reference to Wegmans new “urban” store at Tysons Corner, Virginia.

There are already 4 Wegman’s in NC. W-S and Forsyth officials must chase this now or the city to the East might be on Wegmans radar.

The Triangle Business Journal has a current story on how Wegmans is pausing on its plans for the Triangle market.
