MillerCoors, one of Rockingham County's top employers, is shutting down its brewery in Eden (N.C.'s largest), putting 520 out of work . . .
Beer connoisseurs have developed an appreciation for delicious craft brews in recent years and MillerCoors doesn't fit that model with their cheap, crappy beer. To keep costs down, many of the major domestic breweries actually use fermented rice instead of barley.
I also have to wonder if the coal ash spill played a role in this closure. Breweries use a ton of water, so if they were getting that from the Dan, it'd make Miller taste even worse than it usually does.
